Student Marketing Agency

Marketing services for the Durango community & an immersive learning experience for Katz School of Business students

Program Overview

As part of the Student Marketing Agency Program, teams of students supported by faculty and select mentors provide professional marketing services to local businesses and organizations. The program is housed within the Center for Innovation, which provides a convenient and professional space for agency consultants to work with participating organizations.

The Student Marketing Agency program is one of the many initiatives made possible by the generous donation of Marc and Jane Katz.

Information for Community Organizations

  • There is no cost to your organization to participate — the funding received by the Katz School of Business pays for student salaries, faculty support, and key activities like any necessary marketing research efforts. Yes, this does mean that you receive professional marketing services for free!

  • Your organization needs to be based in the Durango area to participate

  • We work with both non-profit and for-profit organizations

  • The program will run from the beginning of May 6th to June 20th

  • The team working on your project will be composed of a group of 3-4 student consultants (hired on a full-time basis) and marketing faculty (and other professional mentors) overseeing the effort

  • If they are required beyond the project end date, any project-specific subscriptions, software, or specialized tools will need to be paid for by your organization

  • Your organization will need to provide at least one direct contact for the team to interact with the agency team during the duration of the effort. We anticipate a significant need to communicate and interact during the project's duration.

  • Interested in participating? Please fill out our quick interest form.

  • Please note that we will only be taking on a selected number of projects each summer (and this summer we cannot take on any additional projects). If your project is not chosen for this upcoming summer’s program, we will certainly try to have the agency work on the project during the next iteration of the program during the summer of 2025.

Information for Students

  • The program pays a competitive salary during its duration.

  • The program will run from the beginning of May to June 20th.

  • The program will be housed at the Center for Innovation on Main St. in Durango.

  • To participate, you will be hired by FLC. This also means that you will need to complete a formal job application and participate in at least one interview before being offered a position.

  • We expect a substantial time commitment to the program during the summer effort (approximately 32-40 hours per week). As a result, taking a summer class or having any additional employment during the work week will be challenging.

  • You need to be available in person during the program. We anticipate some remote work, but we will have regular in-person meetings, especially with the client organization.

  • You do not need to be a marketing major to participate. Students majoring in other fields are highly encouraged to apply.

  • You will receive invaluable experience working directly with key decision-makers at local businesses/organizations. In previous semesters, we worked with Ska Brewing and Pine Needle Mountaineering & Dry Goods — as part of regular meetings, student consultants worked with the owners/managers that run these organizations.

  • You will also receive an opportunity to work directly with your marketing professors in a high-paced, professional environment
